And the nominees are... your friends
Emmy + HCA nominees amid strike news; Outfest kicks off; True crime premieres; All the July grant deadlines
Happy Thursday, friends!
The Emmys and Hollywood Critics Association announced their nominees back to back this week — right after we launched the ability to tag and credit friends on Portrait posts. Coincidence? We think not.
Speaking of nominations: A lot of you have been asking how to nominate friends to Portrait. We’re glad you asked! We’re about to launch a button in the app! For now, you can nominate friends here (You can always access that link on our homepage).
Did you know 76% of the Portrait community came through peer nominations? Our favorite kind of nominees. Who do you want to see on Portrait next?

The Emmys: News + Noms
The Show… May Not Go On. Perhaps the biggest question isn’t who wins an Emmy.. but when the Emmys happen at all. The timing of this year’s announcements was “decidedly awkward” as the writers’ strike hits day 72 — and alongside news like Hollywood Studios Endgame is to Let Writers Go Broke Before Resuming Talks in the Fall. Thanks to everyone who shared that story… with all the appropriate commentary (our favorite: “Well that’s gross.”)
Crowning a New King of Late Night.“Last Week Tonight” with John Oliver won “Outstanding Talk Series” seven years in a row… but that show now moves to a different category. Could this year’s win go to “The Late Show” with Stephen Colbert (Ballard C. Boyd, producer)? Or “The Daily Show” with Trevor Noah (Thomas Favilla, editor)? We’ll be watching.
