Everything's coming up shows (for now)
So many spring premieres, Spock at the Strike, Peabody wins, and more from Portrait
Happy Thursday, friends,
You made it to mid-May!
We’re caught between our excitement for all the premieres this week — and the reminder of what’s at stake those on strike (thank you to Sonya Goddy, who shared yesterday’s IndieWire piece, “Every TV and Film Production Affected by the WGA Strike.”)
To those at the picket lines: we hope coming home to some of the great new projects from your fellow Portrait members, below, is a nice break from the work at hand.
Let’s dive in!

Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie — Streaming Premiere Tomorrow
The funny, tender portrait that packed festival theaters comes to Apple TV+ on Friday. At SXSW, we were struck by the range of deeply personal, highly specific stories the film elicited from the audience in Q&A.
See what the film brings up for you— and send a congratulatory note to Annetta Marion (Producer + 2nd Unit Director), Clair Popkin (Cinematographer), and Julia Liu (Cinematographer).
New Seasons with Spice and Everything Vice
Lots of premieres coming out this week from the crew at Vice. Portrait’s Vice alumni network is thriving — you know who you are — so send your tribe some love.
Season 4 of VICE premiered Sunday on Showtime. From editor Yalda Mostajeran’s post on Portrait: “Honored to be working with such a talented team and I hope you’ll check out what’ll be another amazing season!”
The new weekly talk show Queer Sports dropped its first trailer yesterday, premiering soon with Vice News. Nikki Dodd, DP.
Speaking of Sporty Premieres…
Unfinished Business, a comprehensive look at the WNBA through the story of one team, kicks off its theatrical release at BAM in Brooklyn on Friday. Portrait member Julia Liu, cinematographer.
An XTR-produced film, Playing Fields, drops on the Olympic Channel May 18th. Congrats to Justin Lacob and team.
Awards Round Up: The Territory Wins a Peabody
The Territory has won a Peabody Award! Congrats to Will Miller (Producer and Cinematographer) and Carlos Rojas (Editor).
Congratulations to Gotham/Cannes 2023 fellow, Yoni Golijov.
