What to Watch This Weekend
The Uneasy Edges of Care and Connection
Friendship. “It suggests not just a subversion but a putrefaction of the Ruddy-comedy genre -- a portrait of male loneliness so totalizing, and so scarily close to the bone, that laughs and screams all but bleed together. (The New Yorker). Andrew Rydzewski, DP; Rocio Gimenez, Production Designer; Daniel Maldonado, Property Master; Shannon Madden, Camera Operator; Kelsey Charter, Asst. Costume Designer.
The Surrender. “The Surrender is a solid horror film, but where it truly excels is in its wholly singular, authentic and deeply empathetic portrait of palliative caregiving which – as anyone who has ever done it knows – is a nightmare in and of itself.” (AWFJ.org). Cailin Yatsko, Cinematographer; Bryan Gosline, Camera Operator; Adam Maffei, Executive Producer.
The New Boy. “A young Aboriginal boy's spirituality meshes uneasily with Christian doctrine in Warwick Thornton's ambitious, visually lustrous fable.” (Variety). Christian Debney, Creative Director; Heather Wallace, Costume Designer; Trish Cahill, Finishing Colorist; Jonathan Hairman, Visual Effects Supervisor.

A Return to Childhood Classics
Pee-wee as Himself. “A must-watch for the multiple generations raised on and warped by all things Pee-wee” (THR). David Paul Jacobson, Ruby Paiva, Cinematographers; Brittan Dunham, Bennett Elliott, Producers; Ian Cymore, David Teague, Ryan Billia, Lance Edmands, Jeremy S. Bloom, Editors; Liz Niles, Head Of Production; Daniel Timmons, Sound Mixer; Milena Erke, Music Coordinator; Patricia Beaury, Production Accountant; Rochelle Brown, Account Executive; Kyle Martin, EP.
Lilo & Stitch. “It turns out to be an excellent candidate for a do-over, able to establish a personality of its own without the original looming over it” (Time Out). Nigel Bluck, Director Of Photography.
