How Producers and DPs Can Collaborate:
From Park City to Your Laptop
Couldn’t make our Sundance panel with the Documentary Cinematographers Alliance and the Documentary Producers Alliance? You missed a conversation that spanned collaboration, kill fees, crediting… and everything in between. But you’re in luck.
Read up on the panel and the DCA’s new guidelines in Filmmaker Magazine:
This document… serves as a rubric for directors and producers to measure the safety, sustainability, and collaborative nature of their documentary project.
Then join us online for round two.
Given the overwhelming response to this topic, we’re working with the DCA to plan an online DP/Producer panel to keep this conversation going.

The Balance: Steady Holiday’s New Music Video
From Portrait member and Director Isaac Ravishankara:
Really excited to share this labor of love from my favorite song off the forthcoming album (Newfound Oxygen) from Steady Holiday. Dre and I spent weeks struggling to figure out what to make before arriving at the idea of of this self-documentation of her search for balance as she heads into the unknown… I hope this video makes you feel the way the song made me feel from the very first demo.
Poker Face: Premiere Tonight
The reviews are in: ‘Poker Face’ is Peacock’s first truly great original series; ‘Poker Face’ is the millennial ‘Columbo’ riff I’ve been waiting for; ‘Poker Face’ is the Best New Detective Show of 1973. We know you marked your calendars a few weeks back when we flagged the series as the work of Portrait Member and DP Christine Ng. And now you know what we’ll be doing this fine Thursday evening.
Searching For Shohei: The Story of an MLB All Star
If you‘ve been following this week’s will-they-or-won’t-they drama over the Angels sale — and what that means for Angels’ star player Shohei Ohtani — now’s a great time to watch the recent feature on Shohei from Portrait member and post-production supervisor Charlie Sato. If you have no idea what Angels drama we’re talking about: now is still a great time to enjoy this story of Shohei’s unique path from Japan to become one of baseball’s biggest stars.
