Weekly Portrait: Everything, Everywhere, All in March
Oscar Previews, Career Auctions, and Last Chance for SXSW Breakfast Tacos
Happy Thursday, friends.
We are three days away from the Oscars and — MORE IMPORTANTLY! — the launch of our second Portrait House in Austin. SXSW, here we come. Thank you to our amazing panelists — look at all those beautiful faces! — and to everyone who is spreading the word. Your emails and posts warm our weary-event-planner hearts.
If you or your friends haven’t RSVPed yet, this is your last chance! And if you aren’t in Austin this week: we’re coming for your city next.
We aren’t the only show in March though. It’s a BUSY month. Let’s dive in!

Oscar Watch: Countdown to Sunday
"Top Docs" podcast hosts Mike Merrill and Ken Jacobson sat down with Variety’s Clayton Davis to discuss what we should expect on Sunday. Listen in — and read all of Clayton’s Oscar predictions. Did Clayton go for the same title pun we did? Of course. The pull of the Everything Bagel is strong.
Don’t have an Oscar evening plan yet? We’ve got you covered.
Get thyself to Austin, Texas.
RSVP and join us for our SXSW Filmmaker cocktail reception with The Gotham.
Tune in and root for All the Beauty and the Bloodshed, produced by Yoni Golijov, and all the other films touched by Portrait members!
Spotted Elsewhere on the March Awards Circuit
At The Independent Spirit Awards:
Best Documentary winner: All the Beauty and the Bloodshed
(Yoni, congratulations on quite a week leading up to the Oscars!)Producers Award nominee: David Grove Churchill Viste
Truer Than Fiction Award nominee: “Mija,” directed by Isabel Castro
At the CDG Awards: We loved costume designer Katie Irish’s on-the-ground report on Portrait:
Hearing the likes of Angela Bassett and Bette Midler say that costume designers are the ultimate collaborators in creating characters was inspiring. Seeing the breadth of work produced over the last year was breathtaking. Talking pay equity in person with both the 829 and 892 committees has me energized.
