Weekly Portrait: The (Atomic) Bombs Bursting in Air
Oppenheimer doc premieres, ethereal music videos, TV writing workshops, and all the July deadlines you need to write down right now
Happy Thursday, friends.
We hope you had a nice holiday if you’re in the US — and that your pets have recovered from firework-related trauma.
Whether the Fourth was a mere blip in your calendar or that out-of-office is active through Friday, it’s a great time to check out your portfolio on the Portrait app. Here are just a few features we rolled out this week:
Thumbnails auto-populate.
New “edit and order project” tools.
Search by organization to find those with similar affiliations across festivals, membership groups, and more.
Questions on how to login to the app for the first time? Ideas? Shoot us a note at support@onportrait.com — or DM us any time.
Let’s jump into everything you launched this week!

Premieres, Press, Awards, and Standout Member Work This Week
Premieres This Sunday: Of Bombs and Bloodshed
“To End All War: Oppenheimer & the Atomic Bomb.” If you're getting ready for “Oppenheimer” in theaters later this month, now’s a good time to learn the true history behind the weapon that changed the world — and how it changed its inventor as well. Tim Metzger, Director of Photography; Alex Pilkington, Post-Production Supervisor. MSNBC/Peacock.
“Last Call: When a Serial Killer Stalked Queer New York.” Based on the best-selling book, this four-part series revisits a string of killings of gay men in the 1990s. Check out the IndieWire review. Yusef Alsuhaimi, Producer. HBO.
Listen/Read/Watch: Relationships at Sunset.
Listen + Watch: This Music Video. Emily No Good’s “Space” is “a little ode to the sun setting on a relationship,” as the artist told The Austin Chronicle. The video “integrates hypnotic, ethereal vocals, house-inspired beats, and a precariously coordinated dance led by intertwining costumes.” Ivy Chiu, cinematographer.
Read + Watch: This Short Film. “The Places We Won't Walk” received a nice feature in the Film Shortage this week. From Jonathan Pope, DP: “Short and sweet, the film gives a small window into a few of the overlooked challenges that some differently-abled people face.”
Watch + Read: This piece on a Ukraine Video Gone Viral. A shout out to foreign correspondent Cassandra Vinograd and her ongoing Ukraine coverage for NYT. This week: a viral video under heavy artillery fire put a fresh spotlight on the chief rabbi of Ukraine.
